Hailey Meche

Mom, Michelle with Hailey - Ronald McDonald House"Ronald McDonald House has been a safe haven, filled with wonderful and helpful people, all ready to lend a helping hand. We are one of 51 families staying in this magical place, where kids dealing with the daily grind of cancer treatments can just be regular kids, where parents worrying for their sick child can find solace, comfort, advice and a shoulder to cry on. Having kids Hailey’s age for her to play and interact with has been such a blessing and a truly welcome distraction. And the support from other parents, going through similar if not the same circumstances has been irreplaceable."

Kayla Smith

Kayla and her Mom, Jennifer"When we first arrived we were still in shock, and we barely left our room for the first couple of weeks. Everything was new, we were scared and we needed time to adjust. When we finally emerged from our room we were all amazed. The care and love is everywhere here. Kayla loved the colors, the people, the kids, the toys, all the playgrounds. It was wonderful to see her happy and comfortable regardless of what she was going through. She made a lot of friends immediately. Ronald McDonald House just feels like home. It’s hard to explain how you can find that comfort that you only associate with your own house, with your own family in a completely new place. This House has truly become our “home-away-from-home” and the staff and families we share this home with are now our family. We have laughed together, cried together, found strength in each other, and saw our children do the same together. Having a safe haven like Ronald McDonald House at times like these is simply priceless."

Cayce Davis

Cayce and Mark Davis at Ronald McDonald House of Memphis
"As a father having a home to send my family to, or accompany my son to is priceless. We, as most families who pack up and move to Memphis after a cancer diagnosis, can’t create our own home here, but at the House it just feels like home. Simple things like going down to the kitchen, grabbing some milk out of the fridge or sitting outside in the beautiful weather or enjoying a meal that someone has prepared for us with love are the things that really give people that feeling of comfort that only a home can offer. We are not isolated. We are around people, friends, family with all the amenities of home. There is no other place that will offer you all of this – and at no charge. Ronald McDonald House is a lifesaver for families in need. When Cayce found out that he had to be in Memphis he wanted to make sure we had a ‘home base’ here. Not just a hotel, not just a bed in a strange room, but a home. Ronald McDonald House has given us that home base and so much more."

Y'Kavius' Story

Y'KaviusWhen we walked through the doors we instantly felt at home. Ronald McDonald House is not just a house, but a community. With friends and neighbors that you come across day by day – you talk, you mingle, you form new relationships, and you find support. I couldn’t even begin to imagine where we would be without this home to live in during our fight against cancer. We are here to get Y’Kavius better. Our ‘other life’ is for now gone – until we get through, this is our new life. We live in this moment, in this home. I have learned that people call Ronald McDonald House, “The House That Love Built”. It’s so true! You never feel closed in and alone. Everything from the surroundings, to the staff, from the volunteers who work at the house daily to those who come and serve us a meal after a long day at the hospital, all of that comes from love.
